AmCham South China Delegation Leads the Way into a Green Digital Future at its Nineteenth CIFIT in Xiamen

XIAMEN, CHINA - September 7, 2022 - The award-winning American Chamber of Commerce in South China (AmCham South China) delegation, led by the Chamber’s President Dr. Harley Seyedin, arrived in Xiamen yesterday to attend the 22nd China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT). The delegation, in its nineteenth year, is comprised of over 100 senior business leaders, including executives from Nike, Citi Bank, Deloitte, Apex, Merck, etc.

During the three-day trip, in response to the "14th Five-Year Plan for Industrial Green Development" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, AmCham South China’s CIFIT delegation, at the invitation of the Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM, will attend the Green China - Low-Carbon Industry International Cooperation Summit Forum to deepen international exchanges and practical cooperation on green and low-carbon industries, and achieve high-quality development at home and abroad. At the forum, President Harley will share his views on the exploration of international cooperation on green and low-carbon industries in the context of carbon peak and carbon neutrality from the perspectives of green technology, green standard and green finance. The delegation will also meet with government leaders from Fujian Province and Putian City, visit local enterprises for business matchmaking, and jointly explore opportunities for investment and cooperation.

In addition, the CIFIT delegation will participate in the Leading China - Emerging Industry Investment and Financing Conference and the theme exhibition to fully connect with the national and global markets and partners, enhance international collaboration on global premium resources, and promote industry docking and integration. Exhibitors of AmCham delegation are mostly from the consumer goods, healthcare, construction, and information technology industries.
Since 2010, AmCham member companies have signed more than US$2 billion on average in each of the past years at CIFIT. According to AmCham South China’s annual bilingual publication the 2022 Special Report on the State of Business in South China, AmCham members remain enthusiastic about investment even against the backdrop of the pandemic. 76% of the American companies will have reinvested by the end of 2022 to expand existing operations. It is estimated that companies have reserved US$26.5 billion from profits for reinvestment in China in 2022 and the next three to five years. In 2021, companies showed a greater interest in investing in Fuzhou Free Trade Zone, Xiamen Free Trade Zone and Pingtan Free Trade Zone.

President Harley said at the press conference that CIFIT has gone through a glorious history of 35 years and has become the world’s largest, most influential and authoritative international investment and trade promotion platform. AmCham South China has taken a delegation to Xiamen for 19 years to help its members learn and invest in this beautiful city. As a matter of fact, at the 2019 CIFIT, 9 Rivers Distillery signed an investment agreement with the Longyan Municipal Government, an achievement made possible with the support and assistance of AmCham South China and relevant government agencies of Fujian Province. On February 18, 2022, 9 Rivers launched a ground breaking ceremony for its single malt whisky distillery in Dachi village. The distillery is expected to be completed and put into operation in mid-2023, delivering an annual output value of 200 billion yuan and creating many new job opportunities. It is important to note that 9 Rivers will sign an additional agreement at CIFIT to establish a cooperage manufacturing facility next to their existing facility in Longyan.

President Harley added that AmCham South China’s CIFIT delegation has made tremendous achievements over the past 18 years and its members have achieved huge business success at CIFIT for many years. “We attribute the success of our delegation to the excellent organization and the high-quality arrangement and service provided by the CIFIT Organizing Committee. I would like to extend my congratulations to MOFCOM, the Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM, Xiamen and Fujian leaders, and the CIFIT Organizing Committee for undertaking and delivering the highest level of professional excellence,” Dr. Seyedin said.

“The Fujian Service Center of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China was established in Fuzhou High-Tech Zone, Fujian Province on July 26, 2021, which has created more convenient, flexible and efficient conditions for its members to understand the Chinese market and government policies, and to seize opportunities presented by China’s development. AmCham South China will, as always, return to the beautiful city of Xiamen every year to support this important event.”
