7 White Paper on the Business Environment in China

4.1 From October to December 2016, AmCham South China
Study conducted its annual study of companies with established
Demographics operations in China. This year 230 companies participated in the Study.
In general, the demographics of participating companies is similar
to previous years; the study respondents represent a broad range of
companies by industry, form of legal entity, and size. The findings of
this analysis will therefore, depict a general picture of the economic
development of the companies in South China.

As the focal point of China’s economy has evolved into the
tiertary sector, the industry classification of participating companies is
structured into primary and secondary sectors, consumption products
and services, as well as professional services are included in this study to
better reflect the present general economic situation. By making full use
of this classification, we delve into an in-depth analysis of the present
economic environment and trends of business development in China.
